The story narrates the misfortunes of a social outsider who tries to survive the hardships of immigrants in the United States. Veronica is the daughter of the owner of the land where Johnny works. In spite of social differences Johnny and Veronica become engaged. In the end Johnny finds out that he will have a son with another woman and decides to remain with her and begin a new life in another place.
